Sponsor requirements and eligibility: A Confirmation Sponsor must 1) be a Baptized, Confirmed practicing Catholic who attend Mass weekly and receives the Eucharist in their own parish, 2) be at least 14 years old 3) lead a good moral life in keeping with Church teaching and be a good role model for the Candidate. Parents are not eligible to be a sponsor for their own child; however in the case of emergency, parents may stand in for the sponsor on Confirmation Day. Sponsors must obtain a certificate of eligibility (Sponsor Certificate) from the parish in which they are active members; including St. John’s. Due date for Sponsor Certificate of Eligibility: January 6, 2013. Due date for Sponsor INFORMATIONAL FORMS: September 23, 2012 (forms will be handed out in class on September 9, 2012)
Confirmation Name and Report:
Throughout
salvation history, when God has assigned a special task to
someone, he has
given them a new name in light of that mission.
Each Candidate should choose a Confirmation name by
selecting the name
of a recognized saint who inspires the Candidate. Alternately,
Candidates may also choose their Baptismal name. Each Candidate must
write and submit a TYPED report
(100 words in length) about the Saint including where and when
they lived,
their ministry and why they are an inspiration (why did you
choose that saint?). For a

Confirmation Retreat:

retreat that is directed to enrich
the candidates
awareness of the Holy
Spirit in a personal way.
With fun
activities and in-depth talks they can see how God is
calling them to build the
church.” Retreat
by Simple Faith
Retreats and directed by Colleen Rayner. Lunch will be
included. Date: Saturday February
9, 2012 at St. John’s; 10AM
– 6PM and concluding at the end of 5PM Mass. Sponsors
(or sponsor representative) must attend retreat. Retreat will
include Confirmation Rehearsal. No child will be
admitted to the retreat
without an adult.
Parents/Guardians are required to attend Mass
with their child.
Inclement
weather

Confirmation Stewardship Project:
Rather
than complete individual Church and Community Service hours,
Candidates will
work together on a meaningful project which will allow them to
offer their time
and talent by serving our parish community.
Candidates will be rehearsing and performing a short
Passion Play which
will be presented during the Family Activity portion of the
March Whole
Community Catechesis Sessions. Parents and families
of Candidates are
welcome to attend. All rehearsals and
performances are required
by ALL candidates. As
part of this
preparation, along
with their
Catechists, children will also be viewing several clips of
the movie: The
Passion of the Christ.
The most violent scenes of the movie will NOT
be shown to the Candidates, however, this movie is rated R
and permission slips
will be sent home and required to view the movie.
Liturgical Ministers:
Candidates
will serve in different ministry roles as assigned by their
Catechist (Readers,
Ushers, Choir, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Gift Bearers,
Food Collection,
etc.) at 10:30AM Mass
prior to the start
of regularly scheduled class on Sunday December 2, 2012. Rehearsal for
ministry roles will take place
on November 18 at the beginning of class in the CHURCH.
